We are on Twitter now!

We have activated our Twitter account and will be tweeting out samples of our work regularly. Follow us @mrsbuccino to see what we are up to!

Last week we challenged the rest of the school to Rethink Waste. Check out one of the ways that we rethink waste in our classroom.

This week we will be focusing on persuasive writing. Next time your child asks you for something at home, make sure you demand a strong argument with evidence as to why they deserve it :)

In math we will be diving into 2D Geometry and learning more about 2D Shapes. The anchor chart below highlights the number of sides and vertices (points) for different shapes. A great plan for home this week would be to go on a shape hunt around your house and look for examples of the different shapes.

2-D Shapes Anchor Chart:

This Friday the class has earned a Tech Block with their Dojo points. Please only send technology if you are comfortable with doing so. We will have technology here that your child can use if they do not bring in something from home. We can not be responsible for any lost or broken technology so please have a serious talk with your child about responsibility before sending anything to school.

PD Day on Friday!

With the cold weather outside, we are working harder than ever inside the classroom! Students have been exploring multiplication and division over the past few weeks and testing out different strategies for solving problems. One of the tools we have discovered is called an array. Students have been organizing items into arrays and learning that they can find arrays all over the place.

At Home Challenge
This week you can challenge your child to explain what an array is. Toss out a handful of buttons or toothpicks or the peas on their dinner plate. Use anything you might have and ask them to organize the items into an array.

Can they use that array to create a multiplication or division sentence?

We have also been chanting the times tables to help us memorize them and make us more efficient. See if your child can use the anchor chart below to keep the rhythm and teach you the chant for the four and five times tables.

Happy New Year!

I hope that everyone enjoyed a relaxing break and I am so happy to see that students have returned to school with lots of energy and all of the right gear to keep warm outside on cold winter days! One thing that I have learned over the years is that it is always helpful to pack an extra pair of socks for your child to keep in their bag just in case of wet feet.

We have a busy few weeks coming up! We will be learning about multiplication and division, continuing to explore music concepts and learning how to prepare "AWESOME" answers for questions about our reading. In Religion, we will be learning about the different sacraments and also continuing to practice the Apostle's Creed.

Homework will be starting up next week and I am adding a spot on our blog where you can find all of the homework information in case something is missing in your package or there is an item that needs to be accessed online.

Please take this homework free week to encourage your child in their reading and to practice skip counting by Twos and Threes.
