Signs of Spring

Spring is officially here and we have been enjoying our outdoor classroom for writing poetry. Students were inspired to brainstorm ways that they can help keep our earth healthy. Look for our writing next week during the open house.

Our classroom is also starting to show signs of spring as our seeds are sprouting and starting to grow shoots. We have quite the variety of plants growing. Our grade three students are starting to question why our bean seeds are not germinating as quickly as we thought they would. This week we may try something new as we continue to observe the seeds that we have in our CD case planters.

We are continuing to learn about how we can open the doors to mercy as we read bible stories. We will be starting to dramatize some of the parables as we begin our drama unit.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our open house next week!

Planting Starts This Week!

Thank you to everyone that has donated seeds and pots and containers. We are ready to start planting and can't wait to see what comes up!

Today we had Scientists in the Schools come in for a Simple Machines workshop with our grade twos and they had a wonderful time. Please ask them about the materials that they brought home.

2016 is the Holy Year of Mercy and in our classroom we are learning about mercy and what it means. We are looking for examples of mercy in the Bible and we are finding them everywhere. This week we learned about the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Students drew pictures of the story and are writing about the lesson that Jesus wanted us to learn from this story. Here is an example of one student's artwork:
